The cheapest automatic litter box sold in Australia, and, because it is the only one that does
not tie you to a consumable it alone sells, comfortably the cheapest to own. It is also the
fussiest about litter and the hardest to climb into.
Prices and specifications checked
The line that decides this review: CATLINK states the waste drawer does not
require any specific bag or liner, and that any that fits will do. Two rivals sell you a
refill forever. This one does not, and over five years that is worth more than every
feature difference on the page.

What it does better than anything else
No lock-in. The only automatic box in Australia that does not sell you a consumable. This is the whole argument and it is a strong one.
The price. A$559 against A$1,199 and A$1,575 for machines doing the same job with the same mechanism.
A two-year Australian warranty included, the same term as rivals costing two and three times as much.
No subscription and no camera. If you would rather not have a connected camera in your bathroom, this is the box that never asks.
What we hold against it
The 35.5cm step-up. The highest of the three, and the wrong choice for a kitten, a senior or an arthritic cat unless you add the ramp set.
The narrowest published entrance at 33 by 27cm, against 40 by 40cm on the Litter-Robot. Large cats should look elsewhere.
The longest exclusion list. Pure tofu, wood pellet, paper and anything non-clumping are all out. If you have settled on a litter, check it before you buy.
No published noise figure or power draw, and no money-back guarantee if the cat says no.
Who should buy it
Buy it if you have a healthy adult cat that jumps comfortably, you use clumping clay, and you
want the daily scoop gone for the least total money. On those conditions it is the best value
in the category and it is not close.
Look elsewhere if your cat is old, small, very large, or committed to tofu litter. The
PETKIT answers the step-up problem and the
Litter-Robot 4 answers the size and the
will-my-cat-use-it problem, both at a considerable premium.
Common questions
How much is the CATLINK Scooper Luxury Pro X in Australia?
A$559, down from an RRP of A$759, checked 5 September 2026 at CATLINK Australia. That makes it the cheapest automatic litter box we track, roughly a third of the price of a Litter-Robot 4.
Does the CATLINK need special waste bags?
No, and this is the most important thing about it. CATLINK states that the waste drawer does not require any specific bag or liner and that any liner that fits will do. It is the only automatic box we track with no proprietary consumable, which makes it the cheapest to own by a wide margin as well as the cheapest to buy.
What litter does the CATLINK Scooper Luxury Pro X take?
Bentonite, or a bentonite and tofu mix, with particles under 13mm. It excludes more than either rival: pure tofu and long-strip tofu are ruled out by name, along with anything absorbent, non-clumping, loose-clumping, newspaper-based or wood pellet. If you are committed to tofu litter, this is the wrong box.
Is the CATLINK entry too high for an older cat?
Possibly. At 35.5cm it is the highest step-up of the three automatics sold here, nine centimetres above the PETKIT. CATLINK sells a ramp set separately, which is a reasonable signal that they know it is an issue. For a kitten, a senior cat or one with joint problems, budget for the ramp or choose a different box.
