The question nobody asks until year two: when the motor stops, who fixes it, and where does the unit have to go? On a machine that weighs more than ten kilograms, the answer is worth more than most of the feature list.

Every automatic brand we track has an Australian entity behind it. That is genuinely good news and it is not true of everything you will find on a marketplace. Cat Evolution imports Litter-Robot, PETKIT Australia and CATLINK Australia support their own, and PetSafe has an Australian storefront. The warranty is worth what the local entity is worth, so buying from them rather than around them is the whole game.
Two years of warranty covers the machine failing. It does not cover the far more common outcome, which is that your cat takes one look at a rotating drum and goes back to the tray. Whisker's 90-day money-back guarantee on the Litter-Robot 4 is the only term among the three that addresses that risk, and for a first automatic box it is worth real money.
None of the three publishes what a replacement part costs, whether a repair is done in Australia or by replacement, or who pays freight on a warranty return. Those are the questions that decide what a two-year warranty is actually worth, and every brand is silent on all three. We have asked, and we will publish the answers here when we get them.
Under Australian Consumer Law, goods must be of acceptable quality and last a reasonable time given their price. On a unit costing over a thousand dollars, "reasonable" is a good deal longer than two years, and no manufacturer warranty can reduce that right. If a retailer tells you a fault is out of warranty and therefore not their problem, that is not how the law works.
Two years on all three of the main automatic brands: Litter-Robot, PETKIT and CATLINK. Whisker adds a 90-day money-back guarantee on the Litter-Robot 4, which is the more useful of the two promises, because the most common reason for returning one of these is that the cat will not use it. PETKIT sells paid extensions to three or four years.
Yes, and it is the more important protection. The consumer guarantees apply regardless of what a manufacturer warranty says, and for a product costing over a thousand dollars a reasonable person would expect it to last well beyond two years. A manufacturer warranty is in addition to those rights, never a replacement for them.
No local warranty, no parts, and return shipping on a unit that weighs more than ten kilograms. The saving on a marketplace listing is usually one or two hundred dollars, which is less than a single freight leg back overseas. It is also worth knowing that Australian units are not always identical: the Litter-Robot 4 sold here has no camera mount, so an imported one is a different product from the one most overseas reviews cover.
